How to get more Google reviews for a cleaning company in NZ
Updated 19 October 2026 · 2 min read
When someone lets a cleaner into their home or office, they are handing over trust. Reviews help the next customer feel comfortable doing the same.
The challenge: your customers are often not there
Many cleaning jobs happen while the customer is at work. You finish, you leave, and there is no handover moment at the door. That makes cleaning one of the easiest businesses to ask by message, because the customer expects to hear from you by text or email anyway.
The moment to ask
- The evening after the first clean. The customer has come home to a fresh house. The reaction is fresh too.
- After an end-of-tenancy or one-off clean. These customers are often happy and busy. Message them within a day or two.
- For regulars, occasionally. Once every few months is plenty for a weekly or fortnightly client. Don't ask for the same review twice, but a regular customer who has never reviewed you is exactly who to ask.
A message you can copy
Hi [first name], we have finished up at your place today. We hope you walk in and feel it was worth it. If you were happy, a Google review would help other people find a cleaner they can trust. Here is the link: [your link]. Thank you, [your name] at [business name]
For commercial clients, a similar message to the office manager works well. Reviews from businesses are useful social proof for other businesses.
Where to put your review link
- In your invoice or payment email, with a QR code and a link.
- In the "job complete" message you already send.
- On a card in a welcome pack for new regular clients.
You can make your link and QR code for free with the review link and QR code generator.
Ask every client
Ask every customer, not just the ones who have paid on time or sent a thank-you. Clients who had a concern (a missed spot, a different cleaner than usual) deserve a way to tell you privately, and that route sits next to the public link rather than instead of it.
What reviews should say
The most useful reviews mention punctuality, attention to detail and trust. You can gently suggest this: "If you can mention what you liked, it helps other people decide."
Take it off your plate
You are the cleaner, the scheduler and the bookkeeper. A message that goes out automatically after each job means asking never slips off the list.
