How to get more Google reviews as an electrician in NZ
Updated 19 October 2026 · 2 min read
People hire an electrician for two reasons: something has stopped working, or they are building or renovating and need it done properly. In both cases they want to be sure you are competent and tidy before you walk into their home. Reviews are where they check.
Why reviews do more work for electricians
Electrical work is a trust purchase. The customer cannot judge the wiring, so they judge you. A page of reviews that mention being on time, explaining things clearly, and leaving the place tidy answers the question they are really asking.
When to ask
- When you hand back the power. The lights are on, you have walked them through what you did, and they are pleased. This is the moment.
- After the compliance paperwork lands. The Certificate of Compliance email is a natural place for a friendly line asking for a review.
- Bigger jobs, at the final walk-through. On renovations and rewires, ask once everything is signed off.
A message you can copy
Hi [first name], thanks for choosing [business name] for your [new power points / rewire / lighting]. If you were happy with how it went, a Google review would mean a lot to us and helps other locals find a tidy, reliable sparky. Here is the link: [your link]. Thanks again, [your name]
A line that mentions what people found helpful tends to lead to better reviews, because the customer copies the idea. "Mentioning the work you had done really helps" is a gentle way to say it.
Where to put your review link
- On your quotes and invoices with a QR code.
- On the van, for in-person asks.
- On the label inside the switchboard, which is something the customer will see the next time they open the cupboard.
Make the link and code free with the review link and QR code generator.
Ask everyone, and offer a private route
Ask every customer, whatever you think of how the job went. Next to the public link, offer a private way to raise a concern. That is good practice, and nobody is blocked from leaving a public review. See is review gating illegal for the line to stay on the right side of.
Replying
Reply to each review by name. A good reply for an electrician mentions the type of work and thanks the customer. A calm, specific reply to a lower rating can win you more work than five good reviews, because people read how you respond.
Automate the follow-up
You are on a ladder or in a ceiling. Setting a request to go out the day after each job means it happens without a second thought.
